World Conference on Drowning Prevention

Members of the Lifesaving Society Quebec Branch are currently in Penang, Malaysia, to take part in the 2015 World Conference on Drowning Prevention (WCDP), along with leaders of the drowning prevention community from across the world. From November 4 to November 6, 2015, the world’s most prominent experts, researchers and policy-makers on the matter will be taking part to discussions and presentations on, among other things, the key themes of the WHO’s report on drowning as a global public health issue.

Participating to this high-scale event is Raynald Hawkins, Executive Director of the Lifesaving Society Quebec Branch, who will be presenting the Perfect Swimming Tour, an innovative public education campaign on drowning prevention in residential pools. His colleague François Lépine, Business Development Director, will also be presenting one of our very own initiatives: the Splash Patrol, which promotes the concept of shared responsibility among lifeguards, aquatic managers and bathers.

Each WCDP is organized in a different country. Canada will have the opportunity to host the 2017 edition of this critically important event for the international drowning prevention community in Vancouver, British Columbia.
