An important year for the development of Lifesaving Sport in Canada

2012 will be an important year for the development of Lifesaving Sport in Canada. The World Lifesaving Championships, held in Adelaide, Australia in November 2012 will determine whether Canada qualifies for the 2013 World Games in Cali, Colombia. The inaugural edition of the Youth World Championships (16-19 years old), held as well at Rescue 2012, will unlock untapped talent throughout Canada and allow these athletes to get an early insight into the challenges at the international level.

In light of these opportunities and challenges, the National Sport Commission is pleased to announce some changes to the High Performance Activity Centre. For more information, read the memorandum by Martin Leprohon, High Performance Manager.

New official positions for the Lifesaving Society

Lifesaving Society adopted two official positions on May 9th : personal use of an electronic device when lifeguarding and thunderstorms in outdoor aquatic situations (available in French only). We would point out that emitting official positions is one of Lifesaving Society mandates. Those texts prescribe behaviors to lifeguarding attendants, instructors and affiliate members in order to supervise swimmers' safety.

2011 North-East Championships

This year, North-East Championships will be held in Outaouais. Promoted in collaboration with Club F1 - Ville de Gatineau, the championships represented a first try to decentralize the sport event; club members wanted to lead this pilot project.

See you at Lac Simon on 19-21 August!

Lifesaving sport and safety

Summer season is coming and soon, lifesaving athletes will be ready to train for summer league and for North-East Championship. Just remember to be careful and to comply with the regulation (available in French only)! Every club manager, training and sports events promoter must know and apply the rules set by Transport Canada. Meanwhile, an athlete who trains alone must know and apply the rules for himself.

Have a good summer!

Thunderstorm and bathing

Don't forget to wait 30 minutes after the last clap of thunder before you get back to water! New poster : print and spread the word (available in French only).
